Dr.B.R.Ambedkar (Bhimrao Ambedkar) a great social worker, educationalist, writer, a reformist of social justice and fought for the welfare of the untouchables. Besides he was a great writer and drafted the Indian constitution and took an important role in framing it. He worked as minister in Nehru’s cabinet. He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1990 for his yeomen service to the country.

Dr.B.R.Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 at Mhow presently in Madhya Pradesh state. He belonged to Untouchable family a Mahar caste and born to Ramji and Bhimabai Sakpal Ambavadkar. His father worked in the British army and hence Ambedkar could get good education. Right from his childhood he suffered caste discrimination in the society and this led him to take active steps for the upliftment of the untouchable caste people. In spite of the discriminations he completed successfully graduation in political science and Economics in merit from the Bombay University. Later he went to United States with a scholarship awarded By Maharajah of Baroda and completed his Master’s degree in Arts and Doctorate in Philosophy in 1916. Later in 1920 with his own money he went to London and completed his studies and took a doctorate in science and became a Barrister.

After completing his studies in London he returned back to India and did a yeomen service for the upliftment of the untouchables socially and politically to bring them forward with the other castes in the society. He tried to bring several reforms for them and started an Outcaste welfare Association. Ambedkar in 1936 established a separate labor party and contested in the elections and several seats were won by his party members. In 1947 after India got independence he won in elections for the assembly and joined as a Law Minister in Pt. Nehru’s Cabinet. He was entrusted for drafting of Indian constitution and was adopted from 26 November 1949. In 1951 he relinquished the position as law minister due to certain differences over the Hindu law bill.

On October 1956 he took Buddhism and wrote books on Buddhism and traveled to Sri Lanka to meet several scholars and Buddhist monks and to study on Buddhism. He wrote a famous book on Buddhism “The Buddha and His Dhamma” and released it posthumously.

On December 6 1956 the great scholar peacefully passed away in sleep due to a chronic illness and depression at home in Delhi. The nation lost a great reformer who fought for bringing social justice to up lift the downtrodden. The nation remembers him for ever and he lives in all those people for whom he fought.

Kareena Kapoor, born in a first family of Bollywood is an Indian actress, who is noted for her works from contemporary romantic dramas, to comedies, period films to major commercial films. Youngest daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babitha and sister of Karishma Kapoor (all belonging to Hindi film industry) made her acting debut in 2000 through ‘Refugee’ opposite Abhishek Bachchan who was also a debutant. Her melodrama ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, her portrayal of a sex worker in ‘Chameli’, her noted performances in critically acclaimed films like ‘Dev’, ‘Omkara’, romantic comedy like ‘Jab We Met’, thriller film like ‘Kurbaan’ and the highest grossing Bolywood film of all time ‘3 Idiots’ all have given her lot of accolades. Altogether she won 5 Filmfare awards of which two were Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. Kareena is still the hot and happening heroine in Bollywood with three films in her kitty.

Anushka Shetty, one of the most happening heroines in Tollywood presently, was born in a Bunt family of Bellipady in Mangalore. Interestingly, after completing her education in Bangalore, she was yoga instructor and has trained under yoga guru Bharat Thakur, Bhumika Chawla’s husband. In 2005, Anushka stepped into the glamour world through ‘Super’ opposite Nagarjuna and became familiar with SS Rajamouli;s ‘Vikramarkudu’ opposite the crazy star Ravi Teja. Similarly, ‘Rendu’ costarring Madhavan also fetched her some recognition in Tamil. The right break to her film career came in 2009, when she delivered a block buster hit ‘Arundathi’. She had not only received rave reviews for her performance in this heroine centric film, but also won many awards including the AP state Nandi Award and Filmfare Best Actress Award. From then onwards there was no stopping her. Today, she is the most wanted heroine in Telugu and Tamil as well. She is one actress who is said to be perfectly suitable for any kind of role, be it a glamour role or an off beat role. Two of her films ‘Nagavalli’ and ‘Ragada’ are slated to release in this month only. ‘Nagavalli’ would be yet another challenging role like ‘Arundathi’ for Anushka.

The success of ‘Endhiran/Robot’ means everyone in the news related to the movie for some time. The top in the list is super star Rajinikanth whose every move is reported. Well, the news is that he is on his way to a life in ashram in the foothills of Himalayas. So anyone wanting to meet him may have to wait till Diwali by when he is expected to return to Chennai. Kailash Mansarovar also is in his list of pilgrim spots. Yes! It’s a well deserved vacation for Rajini who has created an enviable record with his flick ‘Endhiran/Robot’ even at the age of 60. Here are some interesting pictures of this friendly, simple man, who otherwise is South India’s No.1 Superstar.

‘Endhiran/Robo/Robot’ is a technological extravaganza gulping about 40Mil USD with the highest paid actor Rajini and the former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai. Its first part was an intelligent entertainment and the second part was a lavish display of the technology one can only dream of. The movie that makes the viewers feel 20 years younger is an out and out entertainer. It sure makes the entire Indian film fraternity proud and a new genius is born in the form of Shankar, the Director of the movie.

Now, giving a break to Rajini’s usual style oriented approach, ‘Endhiran/Robo/Robot’ totally concentrates on capturing the imagination of the director and also the technicians with experience in Hollywood movies. Everyone has reported that it’s a mix of ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Spider Man’ and certain movies in that genre. No doubt they are expressing their personal experience which even a child will express after watching the film.

The unexpected moves and shapes the Robots take in the climax, still being of the shape of Robots are first of its kind and worth the money paid for. If Shankar advices others not to address the budget of the project and just see what the money poured in has churned out, yes, better to respect his feelings.

Director Shankar, who is being compared with James Cameroon, has now learnt the tricks of using the Hollywood technicians to provide something similar in caliber to the ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Terminator’ and ‘Avataar’. Stan Winston Studios in the US has its contribution with its latest technologies and instruments in providing SFX support but for which the movie would have been just yet another masala one.

Rajinikanth’s craze fan following had its effect where there are reports of ardent fans spending to a tune of Rs 1500/- per ticket to watch this film. But if any credit has to go to anyone in the film, it is the director Shankar who steals it by leaps and bounds. Shankar in this profession appears to be not settling for anything less than the box office hits. If we are to go through his record so far like ‘Gentleman’ in 1993, followed by ‘Kadhalan’, ‘Indian’, ‘Jeans’, ‘Mudhalvan’, ‘Nayagan’, ‘Boys’, ‘Anniyan’, ‘Shivaji’ and now ‘Endhiran/Robo/Robot’. He is in the industry since 17 years but settled for only 10 films and they are hits. What else can one look for from a director when they pour money like a bottomless pit?

Now in the case of ‘Endhiran/Robo/Robot’, the movie was conceptualized by Shankar about a decade ago and was ultimately planned for production about 5 years back. Kamal Hassan was to be the hero with the then much wanted Preity Zinta. But money was the problem, and then entered Shahrukh Khan whose association also did not firm up. Finally it was Rajini’s daughter Soundarya’s interest that brought the movie on track and it needed the tonic from Sun Pictures who will not now repent with the movie raking in more than expected and the expectation is not less than Rs 500 crores.

This time the entire India is looking at it as an Indian film rather than a Tamil film. When it comes to Shankar’s tastes, there is no one in the industry to match his abilities to give a feast to eyes. It was in 1998, he went on a world tour to capture all the wonders for his film ‘Jeans’. And there are many heritage sites and picturesque locations, where it was Shankar who set his foot first before anyone in the industry even came to know of it. So Claudia Bruckmann, a historic place at Machu Picchu in Peru and an exotic, dazzling place, known as Lencois Maranhenses in Brazil (where desert of clear and fine sand filled by oasis with lagoons of blue and crystalline water) is being introduced this time in ‘Endhiran/Robo/Robot’ by him.

Like AR Rahman has brought laurels for the entire Indians in world level, now yet another person from same soil, Shankar has just begun his journey. Talent unlimited!!!

Who said the reunion is only for alumni? This second reunion of different kind in Chennai has kindled a special interest and probably this would kick start as many different kinds of reunions from different southern states. If one has forgotten the actresses, who sizzled on the screen on 80s, this event would help them reminisce fondly. Yes! A yester year actress Lissy Priyadarshan stumbled upon the idea of a gathering together all the actors and actresses who contributed to the film industry in 80s. She herself must have been utterly surprised by the response she got for the programme. What else will be the reaction if one gets to know that superstars like Rajnikanth (who also graced the first reunion), Chiranjeevi and Mohan Lal were promptly present in this reunion programme inspite of their well packed calendars?

<img src="http://www.img1.desicolours.net/2010/stars_80s.jpg"alt="Rajnikanth, Chiranjeevi, Mohan Lal"/>

Adding to the glory were Venkatesh, Sarath Kumar, Arjun, Karthik, Mohan, Prabhu, Suresh, Naresh, Banuchander, Suman, Ambarish, Ramya Krishna, Radhika, Suhasini, Ambika, Radha, Poornima, Kushboo, Nadiya, Sumalatha and Shobana. With an entry of Suhasini Maniratnam for organizing the programme, the dress code got introduced. It was a rare feast to the eyes on August 29th when all these stars walked in with black dress. Of course, a cake cutting and dancing was part of the programme which ended with a resolution to meet every year in one state or the other. So we can expect such gathering either in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka or Kerala one year down the line. Well done Lissy.
