Chand Baori Deepest Step Well – A 13th Century Hidden Wonder

Indian architects and mathematicians have a very good track record in their contribution to the world in the respective fields. World knows the famous Taj Mahal, but what is not known is hidden in many parts of this vast country spanning 2,933 Km from East to West and 3,214 Km from North to South. There are many hidden architecture of worth many years of archaeological study giving clues to present generation of Architects.

A recent find in these lines is a steep well located in a village near Jaipur in Rajasthan, India. The state, Rajasthan is adjacent to Thar Desert and water is a rare commodity in this area. The ingenuinity of certain clever people has resulted in this structure which has 35 m length each side and goes concentric to a depth equivalent to a seven storey building, roughly 30 meters. Yet another aspect of this well is that one can draw water from any step making us wonder on which computer helped the people in the past to design such an impeccable process.

The specialty of the structure built sometime in 13th century cannot be explained in words and the pictures here speak for themselves.

Fascinating!

I’ve seen it before in a film called “The Fall”.
It was used in a spectacular sequence, and made incredible effect.
