Genelia D’ Souza – Back with a Bang

Indian Actress Genelia D’ Souza was born in Mumbai, on 5^th August, 1987. She did her high school education in Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai and pursued her Bachelor’s Degree from St Andrews College, Bandra.

Genelia started her film career in 2003 with the Hindi film titled ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’. Although the film didn’t fare well at the box-office, she got the golden opportunity to prove her acting skills in director Shankar’s “Boys” starring opposite Sidharth, which became a moderate hit. She shot to fame as Harini in Tamil industry as she played the role of Harini in ‘Boys’. ‘Boys’ was dubbed in Telugu and gave her the path for Telugu film industry. Her first film in Telugu, ‘Satyam’, became the super hit and won her many big opportunities in Tollywood industry. But luck evaded her and all her films started to bomb drastically at the box-office in a row both in Telugu and Tamil, due to which she was labeled as the most unlucky heroine ever.

‘Bommarillu’, the Telugu film, was the turning point of this pretty girl Genelia’s career, who over-shadowed hero Sidharth until the climax scene which was the high-light of the film. The role of Hasini in ‘Bommarillu’, had just not won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award for 2006, but she also won many young hearts with her charming looks and her crazy antics. With that, there was no stopping for her with back to back hits like ‘Dhee’ and ‘Ready’. She also acted in the remake of ‘Bommarillu’ in Tamil, titled ‘Santosh Subrahmanyam’ opposite Jayam Ravi which again became a superhit.

Although ‘Masti’ was a flop in 2004, her re-entry in Bollywood industry in 2008 was with ‘Mere Baap Pehle Aap’ which fared moderately. But, her latest released film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ in superstar Aamir Khan’s production, starring his nephew Imraan Khan, is creating ripples at the box-office by running with packed theatres. Genelia as ‘Meow‘ is winning many acclauds from the critics and the audiences as well. That shows her resouding return to Bollywood.

Genelia is currently shooting for the Hindi version of ‘Bommarillu’, titled ‘It’s my life’. This is the third consecutive time that she is portraying the role of Hasini.
