How much of this engineering magnificence was designed by American school children? We have rested on our laurels in anticipation of entitlements showering down on our heads long enough for the modern world to pass us by! If it ian’t Asian or European in engineering, it isn’t happening! Witness the new Corvette – “just in time” engineered, for the great depression! GM used to make a Chevette, a good thing, but dropped instead of improved? They owe the American people an apology, if nt an explanation, don’t they! As do many large American turn-coat- off-shore companies and the predator – capitalist lackies that run them! Please post American companies triumphs to encourage us in these hard times, if you can find any!

No way! Americans have boasted about their achievements more than any other county in the world. In fact, the world has a lot more talent everywhere else! wake up Yankees, the Chinese have put a man in orbit and the Space Station is an “International” effort.

I love Americans but, they need to learn a hard lesson in self-righteousness and trim their egos a bit.

you do know uncle b that the rest of the world was doing awsome things before the usa arrived on the scene. it has continued to do so. this isnt a new thing…

funny thing is that all these americans achievements they are so proud about, were only possible because of their incredible monetary system that allows them to create money out of nothing.
but dont get me wrong, i have some really smart and nice american friends, and im probably not as brainwashed as the average joe simply because internet is my source of information, not TV.

PS: this crane seems to be from Stuttgart.

if i was your mother i would be telling you all that your just as rood as greasy American swine, if you have such superior engineering skills why don’t you go and engineer yourselves some manners and stop talking shit on people just because of their origins.

Getting back on topic, I wonder what the setup time is for that compared to the traditional type.

It seems like the operating cost would be much higher since they need two other cranes just to set this up.

Where is the operators cab? Is it controlled from the ground or did I just miss it?

How did this turn into a discussion about how America needs to be knocked down a peg. Usually when someone criticizes someone else it’s because of jealousy and there own insecurities. In the immortal words of Rodney King: Can’t we all just get along! We’re all human beings who cares if you live on a different piece of land then I do.

I honestly would like to claim that the other American in here boasting does not speak for the rest of us. I am currently educating myself in the drafting / engineering field. I am very amazed and awe struck at some of the feats Architects and Engineers throughout the world have accomplished. From the islands in Dubai, to the Autobahn, and even ancient structures such as the Parthenon and numerous Gothic cathedrals throughout Europe. Yes us Americans have put ourselves on the map but we stood on the shoulders of giants. BTW when ever you need a crane to build a BIGGER crane is f’in awesome no matter who built it first.

I could look at pics, vids and tv shows of things like this all day…Discovery Channel FTW!

Great stuff.

This crane is manufactured by Grove Crane, Shady Grove, Penn., which is subsidiary of Manitowoc Engineering of Manitowoc, Wisc. Don’t automatically assume it birthplace. Check thier website for more cool cranes

The US Government has betrayed the american people (and the world). Republicans and rich capitalists are guilty of treason. America isn’t number one in much of anything. And we won’t be again unless there are miracles.

you’re right. its awesome that it takes multiple cranes to put together one. it shows how it takes other resources to make this crane come together. you must imagine that whoever designed this must be making bank not only off the main crane but extra cranes. its really a engineering and financial feat :)

Heh, this is a funny thread. Cool crane.

And @FK USA isn’t communist… we’re on the brink of being socialist (a step in the direction of communism) thanks to the recent bailout(nationalization?) of the banks by the government… and the health care/tax plan Obama has talked about.

I may be wrong here as I’m just a stupid USAer… but shouldn’t you be a little worried about the USA going into a depression? I’m fairly sure if our economy fails it isn’t going to be very good for the rest of the world… Especially because in our death throws we might freak out and do something stupid… like invade Iran :P

If you think the GTK-1100 is big, you should check out Manitowoc’s new 31000 crawler. It arrives at the jobsite on about 90 trailers and requires two assist cranes to assemble. It can lift 33 times more than the GTK – 2,535 US tons.

Very Cool Crane!
I’m almost more impressed by the responses that a post about crane’s generated.
These are time’s to be made an example of. Inventiveness will be the saving grace of this generation, I just wish that a lot of you obviously smart people, would put this effort into a new product or avenue of interest, instead of feeding the trolls.

Being a contractor, I’m always impressed by some of the feats of engineering that it takes to get the job done. I just doesn’t seem like it would have a large enough base to be lifting heavy loads that tall, but obviously it does! Very Cool!

Oh and @ fk,
Caps lock still looks like childish yelling, if you want to be taken seriously, display it.

There was some discussion regarding the origin of this crane. It is de facto a Grove crane, which is an American company. However Grove bought the crane production of German Krupp at mid-90s and all engineering of Grove GMK cranes is originally German. I think the crane discussed here has same background as it has a Mercedes Benz diesel and other features common with the German product line. Cheers and happy holidays!
