Pesticides Cause Prostate Cancer

Organochlorine pesticides are common pesticides used allover the world to control pests on plants, crops and livestock. The common organochlorine pesticides in use are DDT (Dichloro Diphenyl Trichlorethane) commonly used for killing insects and mosquitoes. Chlordane, Heptachlor, and Pentachlorophenol are used to protect the wood from damage. Endo sulphan is used on crops. Lindane another organochlorine compound is used widely on livestock to kill ticks and lice and also used to kill household pests. It is also used in shampoos for killing human head lice. As we see now that these chemical compounds are in wide use all around the world even though they cause a potential danger on the health of humans and livestock. It is known that these chemical compounds cause serious health problems like cancer, nervous complications, hormonal disturbances and birth defects. These chemical compounds can enter into the human body by means of dermal contact, inhaling the vapors when they are sprayed on crops, and through food contamination when sprayed on vegetable and fruit plantations. Seriously it also can pass into infants through breast milk. The worst part of is that the residues of the chemicals remain on the plants and environment for a long time and cause the toxicity.

In a recent study on the toxicity of these organochlorine compounds it is found to increase the risk of developing prostate cancer in men. According to the data provided by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey a team of researchers from the University of Florida investigated the effects of the chemical on development of prostate and breast cancers by studying the serum levels of the organochlorine compounds. They found that these chemicals are having a potential danger of producing prostate cancer.
