Mumbai Ganesh Maharajas

Mumbai is the commercial capital of India where there are many seasonal activities taking place with same vigor and importance. Now this is the season for Ganesh Utsav from August 23rd to September 3rd for which the preparations start atleast two months in advance. This keeps busy many artists and also the market enjoys a brisk business right from clothes, electronics and all household articles. There are competitions between different mandals which set up their own idols. The biggest and much spoken about idol is that of Lal Bhag where the devotees throng the place through out the day with their contributions ranging from Rs 2 to 3 million a day. These idols are made from special clay from Gujarat. As a part of celebrations there used to be loud music played throughout the day and the idols are immersed either in sea or lakes after taking it in a procession. Keeping environmental needs in mind the Maharashtra state government has devised certain measures and guidelines to prevent noise and water pollutions.
