USA: Obesity In Increasing Trend and Smoking In Decline

According to a latest study published in the American Journal of preventive Health that smoking has decline by 18.5% whereas obesity increased by 85% posing a a major health related quality of life in America. This study was made from the period from 1993- 2008.

The researchers have also calculated the Quality of life years (QALY’s) for the two major risk factors smoking and obesity.

From the study they concluded that QALY’s lost remained more or less stable at 0.0438 for the smoking related factors whereas obesity increased the QALY’s lost and accounted for 0.0464.

They have also stated that smoking has a higher impact on deaths and obesity has a greater risk on illness. Such a type of data is needed very much for setting up of goals for controlling the health hazards in the people. Article by Dr.G.B.Haranath
