Plastic Baby Bottles are Harmful

Baby bottles manufactured with a poly carbonate containing a chemical Bisphenol-A (BPA) is harmful to babies since it is found to produce health hazards in babies. This chemical is also reported to produce breast cancer and hormonal disturbances.

‘Polycarbonate plastic’ is a light weight plastic with high qualities like toughness, durability and optical clarity. Because of these good qualities this plastic is used to manufacture several electronic, medical equipment, and containers for food storage in refrigerators and micro ovens. Bisphenol-A (BPA) is the key chemical in the plastic. Because of the toxic nature of the chemical several researchers studied the possibilities of it’s permeation into foods stored in the containers. Several researchers found that permeation of this chemical into foods are extremely low and lower than 5 parts per billion parts.

However, because of its risk especially to babies the USA has already banned these bottles manufactured with this poly carbonate containing this chemical. The countries like Australia and Britain are not yet banned but the Governments are being pressurized to remove from the manufacture. European countries are also trying to get rid of the food containers containing this risky chemical. Article by Dr.G.B.Haranath
