‘Breast Cancer’ is a tumor developed in the breast tissue of women. It is common in women aged more than 40. It is estimated that about 13% of women are affected by this breast cancer. It is understood that H.R.T (Hormone replacement therapy) increases the risk of breast cancer. In affected cases about 20-30% has a family history of breast cancer which is suggestive of a hereditary nature of the disease. It is less common in African women when compared with others which are suggestive of racial difference in its incidence.

If these symptoms are noticed investigations should be carried to confirm the cancer since infections of the breast are also present the same symptoms. Diagnosis of the disease is carried out by means of a mammography, or biopsy of the breast tissue. Treatment is usually carried by means of radical surgery, Radiation therapy and chemotherapy depending on the nature and severity of the cancer.
Prevention of the Breast Cancer:
The best way of preventing breast cancer is by means of periodical screening by means of a mammography which enables prompt treatment to control the cancer.
Natural way of reducing the risk of Breast Cancer:
A recent laboratory research revealed that consuming pomegranate reduces the risk of breast cancer as reported by scientists of breast cancer research programme from California. According to them the phytochemical ‘Ellagic acid’ prevents the development of cancer by suppressing the production of the hormone estrogen. Therefore consuming pomegranate fruits minimize the risk of breast cancer in a natural way.
