Mobile Phones without IMEI to be Banned from Tomorrow

Government of India stated that mobile phones without unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) will not be receiving services from today mid-night and has guided the mobile operators to stop servicing for such mobiles. On account of this, around 25million china mobile phones will go out of service from mid-night today

Actually every mobile is provided with this 15-digit IMEI number for identification which gives the details about the mobile such as type of phone, name of mobile maker and as soon as the mobile gets activated it will be registered with the mobile phone operator. This IMEI number is very useful to intelligence agencies to keep an eye on mobile phone users and the person if misuses it for anti-national activities could be caught by tracking the mobile set.

As the government found that it is insecure with the mobiles without IMEI numbers, it has put forward a step to ban all mobiles phones without IMEI numbers or with a duplicate number. Most of the handsets without IMEI number are China handsets which do not provide a specific IMEI.

The mobile phone users without a specific IMEI number do not have to worry as the operators put up 1,600 outlets for implanting the IMEI numbers on handsets lacking it and users can obtain it from Mobile standards Alliance of India for Rs 199.

To check IMEI number just type *#06# on your mobile after which an IMEI number will appear on your screen.

For verification of IMEI number, just send an SMS to 57886 or 53232 with text IMEI along with you IMEI number.
