Samsung Introduces New Spinpoint N3U Hard Disk

Samsung electronics has recently introduced its 1.8-inch 250GB HDD (Hard Disk Drive) named as Spinpoint N3U HDD.It uses a USB port rather than ATA or SATA port for connecting to the system which can be used as external storage device.

It incorporates a native USB controller on its Printed Circuit Board (PCB). It stores approximately 125GB per platter of its 250 GB. It comes with a smaller footprint and is designed in order provide efficient performance and consumes 40% less energy than the standard 2.5” hard disk drives.

Normally a bridge board or circuit will be used in common HDD’s for converting a PATA interface into a USB interface but the Spinpoint N3U HDD doesn’t use it as it itself incorporates a native USB interface. It even disables the failures caused due to loose connections and provides best performance.

The Spinpoint N3U has a disc rotation speed of 3600rpm (rotations per minute). The new hard disk drive from Samsung is even available in 120GB, 160GB, 200GB and 250GB memory capacities and supports USB 2.0 interface.

Stepping into the market from mid July it is expected to be sold at a price of $199 (approx. Rs.9,700).
