Master Blaster Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar today, achieves another world record of highest individual score by any individual, scoring a double ton in an ODI format and becoming the first to achieve this rare feat which would remain remarkable in the history of world and Indian cricket.
Although the master is used in setting a number of new records even by breaking his own records and scoring number of tons in both formats of the game, but this double-ton is an unforgettable one by the master setting up new record and achieving one of the dreams and challenges of the Indian batsmen. Although the master had crossed many mile stones this is the awaiting one as he had missed scoring double hundred in two of the recent occasions against Australia in 2009 where he scored 175 and against New Zealand, scoring 163* where he was retired hurt. But this time the master did not loose any chance of reaching this mile stone in his 442nd ODI match by crossing the previous highest score Pakistan’s by Saeed Anwar 194 and Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry’s 194(not out). He played 147 balls to reach this mile stone by hitting twenty-five 4’s and six 6’s. This century is his 46th in ODI’s and 93rd in his career including 47 tons in his Test career.
Born on April 24, 1973 the master-blaster started writing records right from the start of his debut. His first record was in 1988-89 when he scored a century on debut in his first first-class match against Gujarat for his home team Bombay. The second was in 1989 when he made his test debut against Pakistan in Karachi at the age of 16, becoming the youngest cricketer to make his test debut. In December, the same year he made his ODI debut against Pakistan where he was dismissed by Waqar Younis for a duck. Later in the year 1990, the master scores his maiden Test century against England at Old Trafford. At age of 19, he has become the first overseas-born player to represent Yorkshire in the year 1992.
He scored his maiden ODI century in his 80th on-day match in the year 1994 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Later he became the highest run getter in a World Cup in 1996 scoring 523 runs. In the same year he was handed over the captaincy of the team where he could not succeed. In 1997 he was named Wisden Cricketer of the year. He scored his first double hundred in Test matches in the year 1998 against Australia. In November 1999, Sachin made his highest run score of 186(not out) against New Zealand also putting up highest partnership of 339 runs along with Rahul Dravid. H gave up his captaincy in the year 2000 after test seris with South Africa.
In 2003 World Cup held in South Africa the master was named the Player of the Tournament for his score of 673 runs. In 2005 he broke the record of Sunil Gavaskar for highest centuries in Test cricket by claiming his 35th ton. In 2007 claimed the record of Brain Lara’s runs scored away from home in Test matches with 5,751 runs. In March, 2008 with 417 matches played, he becomes the first player to play more number of ODI matches and in the month of August he becomes the first player in India, third in the world to play 150 Test matches. He even crossed Brian Lara’s highest test run record of 11,953 in the month of October, 2008.
Finally now i.e., on 24th February, 2010 at the age of 36, after 20 years in International cricket, 442nd match, in Gwalior he broke and re-wrote the record of highest individual score on his name for his 200*(not out) in just 147 balls and has yet again proved that he is the Genius, Master Blaster, Champion, Legend, Godfather of Cricket.
Hope, the Living Legend will provide his services to the Indian cricket as long as he is fit and his body supports him for playing the game and set as many records as he can entertaining his fans all over the world.
