Volkswagen announced the launch of ‘Vento’ to compete mainly against the Honda City which is launched in September, 2008 and has been the best seller from then selling around 4,000 units per month on a average. The Vento has a 4-valve head engine with double overhead camshaft feature. The Vento gains edge over City as it include two engine options i.e., petrol and diesel engines. Both the engines are 1.6L with a peak torque of 158NM and delivers power of 105bhp. It also produces completion to other cars like Fiat, Hyundai Verna, Swift Drive and Liena. It is brought up on the same platform as that of Polo previously launched by the company in February this year, plays the same strategy and will be positioned inline with Volkswagen higher brand value category i.e., the same premium category in which Polo has been placed.
The Volkswagen Vento will be available in five color segments that include silver, candy white, glacier blue, deep black and flash red. The price of the car is not known exactly but is expected to lie between Rs 7 to 9 lakhs and will be on roads probably from June-July 2010.
